Council of Graduate Schools is looking to hire two Graduate Student Researchers in their Washington, DC location in Summer 2018.

Position Title: Graduate Student Researcher (Two positions available)

Status: Temporary (full-time, 10-week, summer internship)

Report to: Associate Vice President, Research and Policy Analysis

Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Associate Vice President, Research and Policy Analysis, the Graduate Student Researchers will identify a topic, conduct review of relevant literatures, perform data analysis, and prepare a research manuscript that utilizes one or more of in-house datasets available at the Council of Graduate Schools (e.g., CGS/GRE Survey of Graduate Enrollment & Degrees and CGS Career Pathways Alumni Survey).

Position Requirements and Requisite Skills

• Passion for higher education as a vehicle for social change is required.
• Familiarity and experience in graduate education administration is an asset.
• Current enrollment as a master’s or doctoral student at a U.S. accredited institution, studying relevant fields (e.g., higher education, sociology, public policy, etc.) is required.
• Prior training in quantitative research methodology is required.
• Excellent academic writing skills are required.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required.
• Proficiency in MS Office products, SPSS, SPSS Syntax, and Stata is required.Stipend A stipend of $10,000 for a ten-week work period, inclusive of relocation, housing, and all other expenses.

Geospatial Analysis Fellowship

A postgraduate research project and developmental opportunity is currently available at the U.S. Department of Transportation. The appointment will be served within the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) in Washington, D.C., as a Geospatial Analysis Fellow.

You will be using, adapting and transforming data and collection processes originally designed for other ends to provide new data for transportation analysis. You will learn to wrangle automobile, plane and ship probe data feeds into meaningful geospatial datasets, and extract data from remote sensing operations. You will learn to design and build innovative, new data sets that capture emerging areas of transportation.

Qualifications:

  • Post-Master’s in a related field within the last five years
