Supporting Graduate Student Academic and Professional Success
GradQuant Digital Humanities Fellowship
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Digital Humanities Summer Institute, planned to be held in June 2020, was canceled, with the future plans remaining uncertain. As a result, GradQuant Digital Humanities Fellowship will not be offered in Fall 2020. We hope to resume the program in Fall 2021.
GradQuant is partnering with Graduate Division to offer the Digital Humanities Fellowship in order to develop future GradQuant consultants in the area of digital and quantitative research methods for the humanities and social sciences. The fellowship will fund students to attend the Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI), in order to:
- enhance the student’s own research methodologies and
- disseminate knowledge of the chosen digital method to other graduate students.
DHSI will take place in two sessions on June 1-5, 2020 and June 8-12, 2020 at the University of Victoria in British Columbia. The fellowship will include:
- Registration for one course at DHSI in June 2020; travel; accommodation; and meals.
- Opportunity for a 10% paid appointment in GradQuant (4 hours per week) during the 2020-21 academic year.
The successful applicant will be expected to register and attend the selected course at DHSI, develop at least two workshops in digital research methods for humanities and social sciences, deliver said workshops over the course of the 2020-21 academic year, and be available to serve as a part-time consultant offering individual consultations and collaborative office hours in GradQuant during the 2020-21 academic year*.
To apply, students must be in good academic standing, be a registered graduate student in a CHASS department, have a clear idea of how they would incorporate this research method into his/her own research, and expect to graduate no earlier than June 2021. As you prepare your application, please visit DH Fellows page, read the bios of current and previous DH fellows, and see what courses they took at DHSI. You may choose a course that was taken before, but, in the case of having equally strong applications, our preference is to send graduate students to courses that have not been taken by our fellows before. Further preference will be given to those with excellent teaching evaluations and whose chosen method is of particular need in GradQuant.
